What about other terms that had a negative connotation durring WWII like "German" or what about "Russian" from the cold war? Yes, we did call some Germans Nazi and some Russians Commie, but not all of them. If you were living back then and someone called you german it would be insulting. So why don't we all just not say the word "German" or the word "Russian" anymore? Because they don't have a negative connotation anymore. Neither does jap, unless it is used in an insulting way. But that applies to everyother word in every language.

Perfection is the absence of flaw. Nothing in this world is perfect. If everything besides humans were perfect then they would have made us perfect so that we could exist with them.

If everything were perfect then the plants, animals and minerals would see that we don't belong. So that we don't destroy their perfection they would have to either destroy us or change us so that we don't destroy their perfect state. Since they are perfect they cannot destroy something that is innocent so they are bound by their own perfection to make us perfect.

Going farther, if the world itself were perfect then it would be able to supply the plants with all of the energy that they need without having to restore anthing into the ground. There would be no storms, nothing would die, there would be an infinite supply of all minerals and water in every part of the ground. Then again, if the plants were perfect they wouldn't need to have energy to live, neither would animals, not humans. No one would need to eat or drink. If we were perfect we wouldn't have anything, we'd give everything we have to everyone else and they would give to us as well, everyone would be equal.

You're right that most of the time they are just a waste of space and don't blend, but in a lot of cases I like it. I can't say why for the others, simply because I can't remember, but the lines seemed to focus my attention into the middle of the wall. Plus these lines aren't solid black, they're a little transparent and I think they look cool.

I've been looking at the walls a lot while typing this one and I like the first bg much more. In the second wall the girl on the left fills the space nicely, but that's all she does. Is she the reason the other girl is scared? Also for some reason I like the emptyness in the first one, I think that it makes it seem as if the girl is alone in the forest.

I've never been a fan of the blue swirls for a bg, I think that you need some more images. Maybe blend in some little spiders and skulls into the swirling, make them the same color and transparency. Would that look good? Or something that's kinda scary.

I've seen worse in the gallery, so if you're satisfied with the wall then I'd say go ahead and submit, I have confidence that you'll make it better.

The font is a little boring, but if you're going for a clean look then it's fine. Also, the only visible light source is the moon and with the sword being held like that a reflection to the camera is impossible. If you had the reflection coming off of the edge of the blade instead of the side then it would be fine.

I agree with kuroimisa except I like the lines. I've noticed that she always says stuff like "I don't like the black rectangles or lines or boxes..." and I always say "well I like them" so listen to me cuz she's got too many letters in her name^_^

Humans aren't perfect and we are ruining the environment. However, we didn't know that we would cause damage when we started. Think of rabbits and cane toads in Austrailia. We thought we were doing a good thing. What about cars? We had no idea back in 1900 that the fumes they released didn't just disappear into space. We barely even knew anything about the air to begin with. You ask about fossil fuels since we're on topic, well we didn't have the technology to know that the supply was limited. Since we're going that far then I can say that any supply is limited, it just need proper management.

On the other hand, we are doing things to fix what we have done and we're studying the consiquesnces of the actions we're taking so that no real harm comes from it. I'm not sure if we can fix the cane toads and rabbits, but there are projects starting where CO2 is being pumped into the earth and in the next few years new cars using hydrogen or solar fuel will be in production.

Everyday humans create great things and are gaining greater respect for nature. With the improvement in technology the more emphasis gets put on environmental preservation. There might even come a day when we can control nature, right now scientists have found ways to stop storms by making the water fall earlier. The same principles are being applied to hurricanes since the damage that was caused by the ones this year.

And also at the same time there have been no permanent effects to the earth. In no way have we disturbed the regular weather patterns with these tests or experiments. The materials used even go back to the earth with no toxic effects.

Humans are imperfect but unlike the rest of nature that adapts themselves, we adapt nature to suit us. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

It's true that racial terms are meant as an insult so it does have the effect of lowering someone else to make you seem better. However, I don't know about the last part though, Niko, I haven't seen any discrimination of whites discriminating against the minorities around where I live. Not to say that it doesn't happen, but I mainly see the minorities not getting along with each other.

Also it's unlikely that it occurs to all Latinos, Africans, and Asians that live in the US and in all of Europe. There are most likely bad areas but for the most part it seems to be pretty fair. If it wasn't fair do you think that minorities would still live in the US and Europe and more and more of them are entering all the time.

When MT switched over I was level 12 and I kinda felt excluded and most people didn't read the stuff I posted because I wasn't a high level. After getting rid of the levels it's made me feel more relaxed I don't feel like I have to contribute an incredible comment or post just to get noticed. The levels didn't mean anything anyway. People were spamming the gallaries and the forums and leaving short comments on pics just so they could get a high level. And for what? What did a high level do for anyone?

Absolutly right. It all falls on how mature people are. The use of offensive words isn't going to stop in society, so the best thng to do is figure out how you want to react to it. If you want to lose control and get angry then do it, if you want to stay calm and tell them how you feel about the word then do it, if you want to just ignore it and pretend that you didn't hear it then do it, etc.

I don't like racial slander, I don't even like it when people swear, but I don't go around and ask everyone who swears to stop. I don't have that kind of time, nor do I want to spend my energy on a futile effort, so I just choose to not let it bother me.

I think that racial slander became slang because people find it offensive. Let's take the n-word into consideration. The reason that it is accepted in black culture is because it is used as a joke, but when someone out side of black culture uses it then it referes to slavery. Why is there such a seperation? It's because blacks never owned slaves so when they called each other that 150 years ago it was a sign of brother-hood. Well, no one in the US has ever owned a slave, so why does that word still "remind" the blacks of today of being slaves when they never experienced it?

Now I'm not trying to get the n-word into debate about changing it's meaning, but I'm trying to get people to realize that dwelling on the temporary meanings of words is fruitless and only breeds hatred and anger.

Why does everyone get offended by something as simple as a word? Not to mention a word that was meant as offensive 50 YEARS AGO and has since changed. If you look at the n-word for example, back durring slavery the n-word was a word of respect and calling someone black was offensive because it neglected their heritage. Ever since equal rights started the word changed to an offensive term that refers to slaves. Back in WWII 'Japs' was used as an abbreviated term for 'Japanese' refering to the actual people and was used as slander. Ever since then the use of japs has just been for abbreviation of the word japanese refering to culture, and is not commonly used as offensive.

What if I were mad and said, "(insert name) is a cloth" meaning to offend. Would you be offended by that? Most likely not, because cloth isn't an insult. But aren't you missing the meaning of the statement? You should be offended because I insulted you, not because of the word I use in place of cloth.

Infact, I don't think that any word by itself should be offensive, but people should look at the whole context and should be offended or not by what is meant by the whole statement. Doing otherwise just shows that you are being overly sensative and could even be used by some to show a lack of reading comprehension and even inteligence.

However, I don't agree with using words that are offensive to others in any form of conversation, because no matter how I feel someone will not see it how I do. In other words, whether or not a word is meant as offensive doesn't change that some people might be offended by it and it should be used carefully. At the same time we shouldn't be overly sensitive and be offended when someone uses a word properly, in a non-offensive manner. Instead of banning words we should be supporting the proper use of words and not focus on the negative interpretation of them. We don't need to harm the people that use words correctly, we should be punishing the individuals that are being offensive in their words. Isn't that why there is the report link?

The most important thing is that you discuss calmly the rules of the house with your parents when the needs arise. DON'T GET IN A FIGHT WITH YOUR PARENTS! They will win no matter what. They have the right to take away EVERYTHING that you own unless you are 18. That's right, if you have a job and bought something they legally own it until you are 18.

Don't think of your parents as "owners" and you as a dog either. You want to treat your parents well, the more you obey what your parents ask the more trust they place in you and the more freedom you will enjoy. Agree with everything they say (unless it's against the law) and you will hardly ever have problems. Infact, as long as you agree then they will place trust in you and you can still do some of what you want as long as it wasn't technically under the conditions that were agreed upon.

One of the best things I found is a curfew. Say your curfew is 11:30, but you don't want to go home. At 11:20 tell your parents that you had to go out to pick something up at your friend's cousin's house for school, but you're on your way home right after that. Say a name of a place 20 minutes away and then you have until about 12:10 an easy 50 min more. Don't do this all the time, only one in every 10 times or so. And make sure you have a name for the item you are getting and make sure that your parent's see one the next day or that night. Ask your friend to bring a school book and leave it in his car, or something like that.

But don't lie, don't do something you said you wouldn't. And don't insult your parents. My brother couldn't drive for a year because he kept saying my mom was stupid and calling her (insert insult)... bad don't do it

Your parents will be more experienced their whole life, you should always do your best to understand why they do what they do, ask them if you're not sure. The time will come when you're kids will do something exactly like you did and if you have your parent's reasoning added to yours then you can make a better judgement.

You should be extremely grateful to your parents, after all the human race is just one generation away from extinction^_^

Look deeper into the system specs then you have. compare processor speed (since dell uses Intel you don't have to worry about AMD comparisons). If you are using the computer for gaming what kind of sound card or what kind of audio support does it have? what kind of video card? If you are using it for media does it support video in/out?

you said you were worried about the internet failing... well it won't. What you should be concerned with is how do I connect to the internet with either machine? If you are 56k then the laptop might not be equipt with a dialup modem. Do they connect to a wireless network? what about wired? what network do you have, or are capable of? Are you going on a trip and want to take it with you? do you want to use it at school?

These days laptops/notebooks are about equal with a desktop of the same price, so one good way to judge would be to look at the original price of both and see which one is more. And if all else fails ask your computer science teacher/professor, or go to a local computer store (not an electronics store, but one that specializes in computer parts) and ask what you can get with the same money and ask if it's better than what you've already selected.

One good thing about a pre-built (dell/compaq/gateway) is that you don't have to worry if it has problems when you first get it, you should have like 30 days to make sure it works.

I've been around guns my whole life and I have never been in a situation where they have put another person in danger. You are right about guns though; GUNS ARE WEAPONS, they are made to protect, but they are abused by people who wish to harm. When you fire a gun it will cause damage, whether that damage is good or bad depends on where it is pointed. The fault isn't in the guns it's in the people who don't use them properly.

The media strikes fear into people with all the bad stories about guns. Some teenagers shot themselves because they were playing with dad's gun... well how did they get the gun? Oh, dad put it in the closet or under the bed... why were the bullets in/by the gun? where was the safe or at least some place with a lock?

A bank was robbed by 2 armed men... well if 3 people in the bank were consealed weapon holders then it would be 3v2 and it would give the cops time to get there before the robbers can leave.

ok... one more thing... Instead of removing guns people should get familiar with them and shouldn't hate them, and should consider buying one for themselves. I'm not saying "Don't worry if someone points a gun at you." I'm saying "If someone points a gun at you then don't you wish someone else pointed a gun at them?"

Even if you're not going into a feild that uses math or physics it can be helpful to know the basic how and why of the way things work. You never know how it will help and besides, the classes aren't hard enough that you need to complain about them.
